Writing the brief for your AI website

What you enter on the form decides what the AI builds. The description and the page descriptions decide the content; the font, the palette and the preferences decide how it looks.

WhereAccount portal → AI Websites → Create new website

The description

Every text on the website is written from the description. Give it:

  • what the business does, and for whom;
  • what sets it apart: its story, the way you work, what customers come back for;
  • the facts a visitor looks for: address, opening hours, prices, phone number, the names of the people;
  • the feel of the website, in a few words: warm and crafted, calm and senior, cheerful, for families;
  • in a language with a formal and an informal you, which one the website uses.

When the palette is left on Surprise me, the palette is chosen to suit the description, so those few words about the feel steer the colours too.

Facts you leave out are made up. To make every page look finished, the AI fills a gap with a plausible address, phone number, opening hours, prices, team members or customer quotes. Check every fact in the preview and correct it in the builder before you put the website online.

Links are not opened. The AI cannot visit a website or a social media page, so a link in the description is only text. Describe what you like about a website instead: large photos of the work, a short menu with prices.

The pages

Each ticked page is built, and no others, apart from the article page a blog needs. A page's description says what goes on it, and the more specific it is, the more of it comes back. A description that lists its parts, such as what we do, the price per month, three customer quotes, frequently asked questions, comes back with each of them.

A page without a description gets what the AI infers from the rest of the brief.

The preferences

The seven preferences decide how the website looks:

PreferenceWhat it changes
HeroThe top of the home page: a full photo, text beside a photo, a band in your accent colour, a large headline only, or a collage of photos
CornersSharp, softly rounded or round corners on buttons, cards, images and fields
SpacingHow much room there is above and below each band
ColourHow much of the page your palette covers: buttons and details only, one coloured band, or several
ImageryHow many photos there are
HeadingsModest or large headings
CardsFlat, with a thin border, or with a soft shadow

Choices that point the same way add up. Compact spacing, understated headings, outlined cards and balanced colour together make a quiet, businesslike website, even when the description asks for something striking. For a website with more presence, choose large headings and bold colour.

Preferences left on Surprise me are picked for you as a combination that goes together, and to go with the choices you did make. Each website gets a different combination.

Common issues

The website looks plain.

Check the preferences: compact spacing, understated headings and outlined cards together make a sober website. Use Use as input for a new website and generate again with large headings and bold colour.

The address, prices or names are wrong.

They weren't in the brief, so they were made up. Correct them in the builder, or add them to the description and generate again.

A page is missing something.

Name it in that page's description.

The colours don't suit the business.

Choose a palette yourself, or describe the feel you want in the description and leave the palette on Surprise me.

The website I linked to was ignored.

Links are not opened. Describe what you like about it.
